Kaufer named Republican chair of House Government Oversight Committee

KINGSTON — Rep. Aaron Kaufer Thursday announced that House Majority Leader Bryan Cutler has appointed him to serve as Republican chairperson of the House Government Oversight Committee.

“I am honored Leader Cutler has appointed me to lead this committee and the very important work it does on behalf of all Pennsylvanians,” said Kaufer, R-Kingston. “While in office, I have continually fought to create jobs, protect taxpayers, and look for ways to reform government. This appointment will allow me to continue my commitment to these and other important issues.”

The House Government Oversight Committee is responsible for keeping government spending and government action in check under legislative responsibility of oversight and management.

The nine-member committee, created in 2019, investigates matters referred by the speaker, majority leader or minority leader.

The majority party is tasked with appointing five members to the committee and the minority party appoints the remaining four.

Earlier this week, Kaufer announced that he was appointed to the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency Board of Directors.

“At a time when student loan balances are in the national spotlight, I look forward to getting to work with my fellow board members to find strategies to provide more affordable access to higher education,” Kaufer said.

As a member of the board of directors, Kaufer said he will support the mission of the agency to provide affordable access to higher education, both in the 120th Legislative District and throughout Pennsylvania.

Kaufer will serve a four-year term.

PHEAA was created by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1963 to provide affordable access to higher education for Pennsylvania students and families.
