LEHIGH COUNTY — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling southbound on the Northeast Extension (I-476) in Lehigh and Bucks counties that there will be an early morning road closure this weekend due to a bridge replacement project.
To allow for beams to be safely erected as part of the replacement of bridge NB-349 (Tilghman Street), the Northeast Extension is scheduled to be closed to southbound traffic on Sunday, Sep. 22, from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m., between the Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Quakertown (Exit 44) interchanges.
The following suggested detour will be in place:
• U.S. Route 22 East, 0.5 miles
• PA Route 309 South, 2.0 miles
• Interstate 78 East, 6.2 miles
• PA Route 309 South, 9.2 miles
• PA Route 663 South, 3.2 miles
• Re-enter at Quakertown Interchange 44
Northbound traffic will not be impacted. Pennsylvania State Police and PA Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Digital message signs will also provide information on this closure.
Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
