Wilkes-Barre City Police K-9 Unit receives donation from Crime Watch

WILKES-BARRE — Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown joined Police Chief Joe Coffay, Officer Richard Olshefski and K-9 Tenshi to accept a donation to the K-9 Unit from the Wilkes-Barre City Crime Watch.

The Crime Watch has held an annual “Dawgs for Dogs” fundraiser event to raise funds for the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department’s K-9 Unit since July 2022. The first fundraiser raised $1,208.75 and was presented to Chief Coffay and Officer Homza on the evening of the event.

In 2023 and 2024, the Crime Watch raised $7,337.30 at their “Dawgs for Dogs” fundraisers through t-shirt sales, community and business donations, and gift basket raffles. In May 2024, the “Chips with Chase” fundraiser was held at El Tikal Mexican Restaurant.

The Wilkes-Barre City Crime Watch would like to thank the community and local businesses for their support in helping make these events successful.
