Former teacher sentenced to probation for giving nicotine to students

WILKES-BARRE — A former Wyoming Area teacher who admitted to giving marijuana gummies, nicotine vapes and pickle-flavored vodka to three students was sentenced in Luzerne County Court on Monday.

Judge David W. Lupas sentenced Sarah Kester, 35, of Blakeslee, to 30 months probation on three counts of possession of instruments of crime and one count of intentional purchase of a drug. Kester pled guilty to the charges June 10 through her attorney, Daniel Hunter.

Kester was charged by the Wyoming Area Regional Police Department in December 2023, after investigating a complaint that she purchased nicotine vapes and provided marijuana gummies and pickle-flavored vodka to three students, according to court records.

Two of the juveniles told police they did not consume the vodka.

Kester was placed on leave but was terminated by the Wyoming Area School Board on Jan. 23, 2024.
