Wilkes-Barre Township Mayor Carl Kuren

Mayor Kuren: Arena success result of hard work, dedication, devotion

WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Mayor Carl Kuren comments of the Mohegan Sun Arena’s 25th Anniversary:

The Township of Wilkes-Barre wishes to congratulate the Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza on its 25th Anniversary milestone.

Wilkes-Barre Township has been the host municipality for the Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza since the grand opening in 1999 and it has drawn more than 15 million people with nearly one thousand shows — becoming the focal point of continued commercial growth of Wilkes-Barre Township, the City of Wilkes-Barre and the greater Wyoming Valley.

The Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza has hosted many legendary bands and musicians, including Neil Diamond, Elton John, Barry Manilow and Janet Jackson, as well as five Presidential visits, including both Former President George W. Bush and Former President Donald J. Trump — bringing the Arena and Wilkes-Barre Township into the national spotlight, as well as being the “home ice” for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for 25 years, drawing tens of thousands of adoring AHL hockey fans.

I applaud the success of the Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza, which is a testament to the hard work, dedication and devotion of the facility’s management and staff.

The Arena has been an amazing addition to the business community of the Township, growing into such a wonderful venue for concerts, sports, auto shows, fairs, high school graduations, and outdoor events.

May the coming years continue the prosperity of the Mohegan Arena that began as an idea and has grown into a local icon.

NOTE: The Mayor presented a Mayoral Proclamation to the Arena Board of Directors at its meeting on Sept. 11.
