WILKES-BARRE — The United Way of Wyoming Valley on Thursday announced the election of Sara Peperno as its new chief executive officer, effective March 24.
Peperno, a highly respected leader in the nonprofit sector, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to serving the community.
“We are excited to welcome Sara as our next leader,” said Tara Mugford Wilson, board chair. “Her passion and commitment to our community and her proven track record make Sara the perfect fit to guide the organization into the future.”
Peperno succeeds Jennifer Sordoni, who has served as Interim CEO since October 2024. The United Way of Wyoming Valley extended its gratitude to Sordoni for her leadership and tireless efforts in keeping the organization on a strong path during this transitional period.
Peperno serves as president and CEO of Northeast Sight Services, where she has led initiatives to enhance services for individuals with visual impairments. Prior to that, she worked for the United Way of Wyoming Valley and gained a deep understanding of the organization’s mission and impact.
“I’m honored to return to an organization that has always held a special place in my heart,” said Peperno. “I look forward to working alongside our team, the board and community partners to build on the incredible work already being done and expand our impact in new ways.”
