Wilkes-Barre man surrenders on drug, firearm warrant in Courtdale

COURTDALE — A Wilkes-Barre man surrendered Monday on an arrest warrant obtained by Courtdale police charging him with drug trafficking and firearm offenses stemming from a traffic stop in June.

Ninza Tyrone Johnson Jr., 23, was arraigned by District Judge Michael Dotzel of Wilkes-Barre Township on two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count each of possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, receiving stolen property, possession of a small amount of marijuana and three traffic violations. Johnson was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.

Courtdale police obtained an arrest warrant for Johnson on July 1 stemming from a traffic stop for speeding on Courtdale Avenue on June 30, according to police.

During the traffic stop, police say the vehicle Johnson was operating had no insurance and expired inspection and emission certificates.

Johnson was released from the scene as he was informed a search warrant was going to be obtained for the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle, according to police, uncovered three 9mm firearms, seven bricks or 325 fentanyl/heroin packets, an estimated quarter pound of marijuana packaged into 3.5 grams per package, $1,000 cash and a significant amount of packaging materials. One of the firearms was reported stolen, and another had an altered serial number, police reported.
