WEST HAZLETON — One man was arrested and another is being sought after they fired shots at each other with an innocent bystander suffering a gunshot wound on Wednesday, West Hazleton police reported.
Police say they responded to Warren Street for a person who suffered a gunshot wound when two men were involved in an altercation and an exchange of gunfire ensued.
As a result of two men shooting at each other, a person sitting on their porch was struck by a bullet, police reported.
Police say they arrested Guillermo Ventura, 21, of West Hazleton, on allegations he fired the shot that struck the person on the porch. Other fired rounds struck occupied buildings in the area.
Ventura was charged with aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm into an occupied building, reckless endangerment and propulsion of missiles onto roadways.
District Judge James Dixon of Hazle Township arraigned Ventura who was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Police say they are continuing the investigation to determine the identity of the second gunman along with other participates in the incident.
