Wright Township man gets state prison for online solicitation of a child

WILKES-BARRE — A man from Wright Township arrested during an undercover child solicitation sting was sentenced to spend up to five years in state prison on Thursday.

Shaun F. Long, 42, of Maple Drive, was sentenced by Luzerne County Judge David W. Lupas to 15-months to five years in prison for criminal attempt to commit statutory sexual assault. Long pled guilty to the charge May 19.

Long was arrested in June 2024, when he arrived at a pre-determined location believing he was meeting an underage girl for sexual relations, according to court records filed by Kingston Township police and the Wyoming Area Regional Police Department.

Court records say Long responded to an online advertisement involving the girl and expressed his sexual intentions.

When Long was arrested, court records say, he had a box of condoms and gifts for the girl, who was an undercover law enforcement officer.

First Assistant District Attorney Anthony Ross called Long’s actions, “disturbing.”

Long was also ordered to serve three years probation upon release from prison and subject to lifetime registration of his address under the state’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act.
